Queretaro, official name: Free and Sovereign State of Queretaro is a state in central Mexico. The administrative center of the state is the city of Santiago de Querétaro, although in common usage the name “Querétaro” is used for both the city and the state. Queretaro is bordered in the north by the state of San Luis Potosi, in the west with the state of Guanajuato, in the east with the state of Hidalgo, in the southeast with the state of Mexico City and in the southwest with the state of Michoacan. The administrative center is the city of Santiago de Querétaro, located about 200 km northwest of Mexico City. The city is known for its colonial-era architecture. The population of the state is two million.
